Khoi Young — Khoi Young's performance at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships, held August 16-19, 2018 in Boston, MA, earned him a spot on the USA Gymnastics 2018-2019 U.S. Men's Junior National Team!
The 2017-2018 Season started off like any other season. Khoi was determined to have a great season. In February 2018 at The BlackJack Mens Championship & Winter Cup Challenge, Las Vegas, N —one of the countries largest invitationals for gymnastics—Khoi took 1st place in the all-around and won Floor, Pommels, Rings & Vault. With this great win, he was on his way to a great Championship season. With athletics always being about maintaining health, a week after winning the 2018 Region 7 Championships for Level 10 15-16 Junor Elite, Khoi sustained a hamstring injury that prevented him from performing his best at the 2018 Junior Olympic National Championships in Oklahoma. With the injury, it caused plan B to be put into action, which was competing at the 2018 National Qualifier held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado. At the National Qualifier, Khoi showed how great of an athlete he really was by placing 1st place after day one in the two-day competition and tying for 1st place on day two, which qualified him for the 2018 USA Gymnastics Championships in Boston, with an opportunity to make the Junior National Team. Making the Junior National Team allows Khoi an opportunity to represent the USA at an International competition. As we prepare for the upcoming season, the competition schedule will be full of Sportsplex Gymnastics Team Competitions as well as the possibility of some competitions to represent the US National Team.
Since joining Sportsplex Gymnastics in 2009, Khoi has been working under the direction of Head Coach Bob Lundy. In 2014 Khoi qualified to the Junior National Developmental Team. At the 2017 Junior National Championships, Khoi just missed the National Team by placing 5th in the all-around, as the top 4 gymnasts were selected. Coming that close to National Team made Khoi even more determined to make the National Team.
